Bhiwani, Dec 26 : Souvik Chakraborty of West Bengal caused a major upset in the ongoing 2nd Bhiwani Fide Rated Open Chess Tournament as he stunned fifth seed and International Master R Balasubramaniam in the third round encounter at Preksha Vihar, Kirorimal Park here today.

Moldovan International Grandmaster, Viorel Bologan, obtained a splendid qualification for the third round of the World Chess Cup, held in Khanty-Mansiisk, Russia. Bologan defeated in the additional matches Bulgarian player Ivan Ceparinov. The score after the first two classic chess games was equal, 1-1, and under FIDE Regulation, the winner should be decided in a tie-break
