Becca Kinsey is a 39-year old Tucson local, who after years of thinking chess was way too confusing, decided to give it a try. A couple months later, Kinsey and others have formed an all-ladies chess team consisting of sixteen members.

The group is an outgrowth of a nonprofit organization in Tucson called 9 Queens, started in 2007 by Jean Hoffman, 29, and Jennifer Shahade, 28, a two-time United States women’s chess champion.
